La clasificación general de las plantas vasculares considera los siguientes grandes grupos o Divisiones: |

1) Pteridófitas (Pteridophyta) correspondientes principalmente a helechos y afines como licopodios, equisetáceas y selaginelas. por ejemplo, el helecho de nombre común "Ampe" o "Palmilla" cuyo nombre científico es Lophosoria quadripinnata. |

 |
||||
2) Gimnospermas (Gymnospermae) correspondientes a las araucarias, cipreses, podocarpáceas y otras. Ejemplo, el árbol más grande de Chile, el denominado "Alerce" o "Lahuán" integra este grupo, y su nombre científico es Fitzroya cupressoides. |
||||
3) Angiospermas (Angiospermae) que a su vez se dividen en las Clases Dicotiledóneas (Dicotyledoneae), o plantas con dos cotiledones en sus semillas, y Monocotiledóneas (Monocotyledoneae) o plantas con sólo un cotiledón por semilla. Un ejemplo de angiosperma dicotiledónea es el árbol llamado "Coihue", cuyo nombre científico es Nothofagus dombeyi, en tanto un ejemplo de una angiosperma monocotiledónea es nuestra flor nacional llamada "Copihue", de nombre científico Lapageria rosea. |

Dentro de las Divisiones y Clases mencionadas, las plantas se siguen clasificando en Subclases, Ordenes y Familias que puedes ver en la tabla al final de este listado. |
||||
Cada Familia reune a un grupo de especies cercanas en su clasificación taxonómica. Dicha clasificación integra características propias de su morfología, en especial la morfología de sus flores, y características genéticas, que responden a un pasado evolutivo en común. En esta sección se presentan las Familias presentes en la Flora de Chile, específicamente las familias representantes dentro de nuestra flora vascular. En primer lugar listamos las familias de la flora nativa ordenadas alfabéticamente y en segundo lugar mostramos las familias de la flora chilena ordenadas según la clasificación botánica taxonómica, es decir ordenadas y agrupadas de acuerdo a su pasado evolutivo común. Tanto para la clasificación botánica taxonómica, como para el listado alfabético de las familias botánicas, podrás ingresar al listado de especies de flora chilena que integran a cada familia, mediante el motor de base de datos de Chilebosque. Al ingresar a cada familia a través de su vínculo en la columna de familias de la clasificación taxonómica, como también mediante el vínculo de cada imagen en el caso de el listado alfabético, accederás a la base de datos de Chilebosque de las especies que componen o integran cada familia, y conocer cuales especies de plantas la integran, y a su vez ingresar a la ficha descriptiva de las especies de Chilebosque.
